Voice (Vocal Yoga) for Singers: An Expanded Course Outline

This course integrates vocal technique with yoga principles to enhance vocal health, flexibility, and performance. It emphasizes breath control, posture, mindful vocalization, and self-awareness.

Course Structure: 6 Modules (Each module includes detailed theory, diverse exercises, variations, additional resources, and homework assignments.)

Module 1: Foundation - Breath & Posture

  • Theory: The importance of diaphragmatic breathing for singing. Understanding posture's impact on vocal resonance and projection. Identifying common postural issues in singers.

Module 2: Vocal Warm-ups & Cool-downs

  • Theory: The importance of proper warm-ups and cool-downs to prevent vocal strain. Types of vocal warm-ups and their benefits.

  • Exercises

Module 3: Resonance & Tone

  • Theory: Understanding vocal resonators (chest, mask, head). Developing a resonant and balanced tone.

  • Exercises

Module 4: Vocal Agility & Flexibility

  • Theory: Improving vocal range and agility. Techniques for expanding vocal flexibility.

  • Exercises

Module 5: Vocal Health & Hygiene

  • Theory: Understanding vocal health, hydration, and vocal rest. Identifying and avoiding vocal strain.

  • Exercises

Module 6: Performance & Mindfulness

  • Theory: Applying vocal yoga techniques to performance situations. Managing performance anxiety through mindfulness techniques.

  • Exercises

Homework: Each module will include homework assignments, such as practicing exercises, recording oneself singing, and journaling about vocal sensations.
